German Weihnachtsmarkt

This Blog Entry is for all my Friends in the US.

In Germany we have a tradition, called “Weihnachtsmarkt”. That means “Christmas Market”. In every City and in every village there is at least one “Weihnachtsmarkt”. It is opening 4 weeks before christmas. This is how it looks in Mannheim.

It is build around the “Wasserturm” (Water Tower). The Water Tower is the most famous emblem of Mannheim.

On the “Weihnachtsmarkt” there are this small houses. And in every small house somebody try to sell you some christmas stuff.

So you can buy some old style pitchers.

Warm house shoes

or some small metall soldiers.

But the main reason why we are making a Weihnachtsmarkt is of course alcohol! 🙂
If you are on a Weihnachtsmarkt you have to drink “Gluehwein”. That is hot wine with some spicy stuff 🙂

Here is another page with the receipt: http://www.justhungry.com/2006/12/recipe_gluhwein_mulled_wine_fo.html

You can have the Gluehwein also with some Rum. That is a little bit more strong 🙂
Some people like it, some not. But that does not matter. If you want get drunk, it works pretty good and pretty quick 🙂

And if you are hungry you have to try the German Fire Sausages

As a dessert you should try the hot Maronis.

Weihnachtsmarkt is good thing. Specially if there is snow outside.
