There are over 7 million people living in the Bay Area. The Bay Area includes San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose / Silicon Valley. San Francisco is just a small part of the Bay Area. There are less than 1 million people living in San Francisco.

The Bay Area’s nine counties are Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma.

San Jose and Silicon Valley
The communities south of San Francisco are known as Silicon Valley. This includes San Jose  as well as the high-tech hubs of Santa Clara, Milpitas, Cupertino, Sunnyvale as well as many other cities like Saratoga, Campbell, Los Gatos and the exurbs of Morgan Hill and Gilroy. San Jose is the biggest City in Silicon Valley.

There are over 130 000 businesses in the Bay Area. Unbelievable! And of course a lot of tech firms. Nearly every big tech firm has at least a satellite office here in the Bay Area.

Before the second world war the Bay Area was known for agra culture. After the second world war some tech firms started here in the valley. After a while the tech firms got more and more successful  and dominant. Today this areas is basically known for his tech firms and the Start-Up culture.

No where else on the world there is such a high concentration on tech firms, engineers, VC firms, Investors and good ideas.

But there is not just tech stuff in the Bay Area. There is also a lot of Art, good food, beautiful nature and some Hippies 🙂 Actually some of the early hippies went into tech and become rich. Today they own some very successful companies here.
